Thanks for doing this exclusive interview for us here at Mixtapez Matter. As you may know we great fans of mixtapez here, but what’s your take on mixtapez? Do you think they are still relevant?

Mixtapes are definitely relevant in hip hop today. No doubt about it. Every artist that comes out the first thing they want to do and most likely going to do is put together their own mixtape or try to find a feature slot for their music with a notable DJ to gain exposure and get heard.

Ima always show love to the mixtapes because I gained alot of notariaty and recognition on the mixtape scene and it has definitely propelled me to where I am today as an artist.

I came up out the mixtape generation when mixtapes were something new and different, before the internet took over the game. Back when you could actually have time to enjoy a mixtape. Id cop a mixtape on the street, tape or Cd, and rock that joint out til’ I knew every last word to every last song on that joint and wait weeks-months for the next.

Nowadays there are new mixtapes being uploaded onto the internet every few minutes, if that doesn’t show how popular they’ve become in the last few years, I don’t know what would!

Have you released any mixtapez and what was the response like?

Yes. I have released a few solo mixtapes.

My company (TheLowEntertainment) has also released a couple mixtapes with our very own series we collaborated with DJ FOCUZ to create “STRONGEST OUT SERIES” which highlights artists from STRONG ISLAND (where Im from) and other up and coming artists I work with.

The responses from our mixtapes have been phenomenal! The fan and industry support is always a major drive to continue on and keep doing what we do!

“STRONGEST OUT 2” is brought to you by DJ FOCUZ & TheLowEntertainment! I hosted the project and we have features ranging from; Blaq Poet, REKS, Whyteout, Gillie Da Kid, The Closers, to Lee Kid (myself), Bagel$ & Nicky Nicks (Prod.) members of TheLowEntertainment.

So who does you artwork?

All the artwork that TheLowEntertainment has released has been done by a designer named Jay Gage (JayGageDesigns). He did the “LEE KID UNLEASHED” cover, “STRONGEST OUT 2” cover, and the company website header. He’s extremely talented and has help create a visual feel for what we have released.

Have you had any radio stations & deejays air you music on the radio? If so who?

Yea, a few internet radio stations, college radio and satellite radio shows.

Off top; CJLO with DJ MISTER VEE, UnHeardRadio, Hype Radio (with William M. Breeze)…

Out here in Long Island the 2 major hip hop shows “Street FM” & “Trim Mix Party” definitely keep that Lee Kid in rotation regularly.

Throughout the years its tough to remember all the shows, or current ones that are playing my records but BIG SHOUT TO THEM AND THE LOVE AND SUPPORT IS DEFINITELY APPRECIATED ALL DAY EVERYDAY!

Thanks for taking time to talk to us about your latest project. So first off how are you? How’s life and who is the music industry treating you?

Everythings great ! I wanna thank you guys for taking the time out to do this interview first and foremost; As of this moment I am promoting the most recent release from my company (TheLowEntertainment) “STRONGEST OUT 2” with Dj Focuz, shouts to Dj Focuz! I hosted the project and it’s the follow up volume to the first instalment of the series. The industry response so far has been nothing but positive and supportive.

Your new release is sounding tight. Can you tell us a bit more about it, who features and who produced it?

Werdd up!! That’s what’s up homie, appreciate that! “STRONGEST OUT 2” is the 2nd tape in a series me and my dude DJ FOCUZ put together to highlight some artist’s from where I reside, STRONG ISLAND, NEW YORK. MCs to look out for from Long Island; P.C.U, Whyteout, Imagen8, Bagel$, and of course THE LOW! & Lee Kid! On the production tip; Nicky Nicks & ill Breed Music are the highlighted producers on this volume and happen to be personal producers of mine. Some of the more well known features on the tape include; Blaq Poet, REKS, Shabaam Sadeeq, Gillie Da Kid & K Sparks (2010UMA NOMINE BEST PUNCHLINE).

What record label is it on and where is the best place to get it?

It’s a release under “TheLowEntertainment”, soon to be TheLowEnt LLC. Best place to get it is on the company website: www.TheLowEnt.blogspot.com

What do you think are the stand-out tracks on your project?

ALL OF THEM! LOL! I aint just saying that either. Every last joint on the project I can vouch for because I personally hand picked these artists-songs and it was a long time coming sorting submissions and finding the right joints to create the feel I was looking for with this project. “TAKE IT BACK” is that posse cut to watch for! Produced by Nicky Nicks and featuring the MINORITY MOB ENT camp, I laced it up with them for a definite banger for the streets! “LAID BACK (IN THE ZONE” is another joint produced by Nicky Nicks that I laced with my man BAGEL$ (The Low) to bring that new wave mellow sound for the listener. “VERBAL VENUM” is the other parts of The Low in full effect. Nicky Nicks on the production and Bagel$ on the mic, definitely has that unique ‘Burb Boy’ swagga to it!

Hip-Hop music has changed so much over the last ten years and now is going through a transition where Hip-Hop has become really commercial. Do you like commercial Hip-Hop or do you just listen to underground acts?

Ehh…You know…I won’t sit here and front like I don’t listen to some mainstream “RAP” these days, but at the same time, I strongly disagree with the direction “Mainstream Outlets” are taking commercial Hip Hop music. The artform that Hip-Hop was built and based upon is becoming watered down and lost in this transition. The message in the music has become secondary to the beat and melody, while both vital to a song, one should not outweigh the other to such extremes. True lyricism isn’t appreciated enough. Commercial too Underground, Major too Indi, if a song is good…ITS GOOD! In that same respect, when it sucks…IT SUCKS! For the most part I’m hearing generic, stereotypical, un-original, WACKNESS on all spectrums, with few exceptions. There is a huge over-saturation in the music industry, especially in hip-hop, for the most part I listen to myself and my artists, THE LOW!

Tell us a bit about where you are from. What’s the Hip-Hop scene like there?

I’m from a small town Sea Cliff (Village to be exact) on Long Island (Strong Island), New York, Nassau County 5-1-6! …Before me there was no hip-hop seen, lol. I am thee originator for Sea Cliff Hip Hop! Although Glen Cove is next door and saw the success of Ashanti (Murder Inc.) a few years back, around the way few tried and very few lasted. Strong Island as a whole on the other hand has deep rooted history in the hip hop game. Many legends hail from the isle and have left footprints in the industry for dudes like myself to follow. Too name a few; Rakim, Busta Rhymes, Keith Murray, Prodigy, Flava Flav. Last year I made the finals for STRONGISLANDHIPHOP MAGAZINE’S competition for FEATURE/COVER ARTIST of their 1st DVD. Up against former Flipmode Squad member and Long Island native, Reek Da Villain, I won after months of voting and hard promotion! SIHH MAGAZINE definitely do it big for LI. Couple LI Hip-Hop Scene things to mention would be; “STREET FM” & “TRIM MIX PARTY” WUSB 90.1 FM, holding down that Strong Island sound on the radio. Definitely “GROUNDWURK STUDIOS” and my man L-Ament over in West Babylon if you looking for a professional spot in LI to record. LI Hip Hop definitely here and I come to show the people a whole different style/swag we bring to the table! STRONG ISLAND STAND UP!

Okay I’m going to try and build a picture of what your like as a person. Apart from making and listening to music what else do you spend most of your time doing?

It’s rare that I am not involved with music one way or another even on my free time. When I do manage to take a break you might find me cruising through your neighborhood with the radio on blast! I enjoy taking rides in my car to free my mind and help balance myself out whenever I need a break or have had too much for the day. I really like watching documentaries. I watch tons of movies, all kinds, and I have the illest up and coming DVD collection there is! At the end of every day I like to end it off proper in bed with a movie to watch! Constantly trying to better myself and grow for the most part. Learning through experience and taking life as it comes.
